$30 Project |
I'm Lindsay and I started to this blog in 2010 to try and pay off my credit card debt. (I finally managed it in late 2012!) I set a budget for every year. They've gone as follows: spending no more than $30 on any single clothing item, spending only a $100 per month, and budgeting $1,200 for the year that I could spend whenever I liked. I've never once broken the rules! In 2013, I have a $1,000 budget. Shell Top: thrifted via the Goodwill $12, Shorts: Urban Outfitters $20 on sale, Espadrilles: Aldo previously owned for 5 years, Bracelet: purchased 2 years ago at a boutique in LI
I wore my new Goodwill find yesterday and ever since I’ve been wondering whether or not to post this outfit. I love the detail of this shell top, but I wasn’t quite sure what to pair it with so I got a little lazy and just threw it on with shorts & sandals. It deserved more effort.
Also, I’ve been feeling a bit body conscious as of late and I don’t think this flatters my figure. Rebecca over at The Clothes Horse was discussing the concept of “flattering one’s figure” the other day and it got me wondering why I’m stuck in such a rut.
It’s no lie that when I dress now, I think about how the outfit will look in the photo, if it’s something I have shown before, or whether it’s too boring to post on the $30 Project. Truth be told, without this challenge, I would probably still be utilizing my tank-top & jeans routine. So I like the fact that I am pushed to be more creative and expressive with my personal style.
I am lucky enough where no one has ever scrutinized me for any of my photos. Actually everyone has been quite supportive, for which I’m very grateful. But there are days like yesterday, where I’m not feeling my best and my outfit choice feels very uncomfortable.
I thought I would go ahead and post anyway. I guess we all have our off-days.
Total cost of the outfit = $32
