$30 Project |
I'm Lindsay and like most freelance writers, I'm broke! In 2010, I didn't spend more than $30 on a single clothing item for the entire year. In 2011, I kept my budget to $100 per month. In 2012, I can spend $1,200 whenever and wherever I choose. Questions/Concerns can be addressed care of thirtydollarproject@gmail.com or tweet me! @30dollarproject for outfit updates and @LindsH for the various musings of my everyday life. |
pterodactyls asked: 1. How did your own personal style evolve over the past year? Aside from those truly fantastic purses, what was your favorite new piece? 2. How do you anticipate your personal style evolving over the next year, especially with the different sort of freedom your new rules allow? 3. Marty is the cutest, Y/Y?
Vicky always asks the best questions cause they’re actually quite difficult to answer!
I would say that the biggest change in my style over the past year has to do with the confidence factor. I started improving the quality of my pictures, my blog gained a little bit more visibility, and I had learn to become more comfortable with having this sort of weird public presence that centered around taking a picture of myself everyday. That being said, I really embrace certain elements of my personality now that I tried to keep hidden for the majority of my life. I can be a bookish, introverted little nerd sometimes who wears big glasses and has an overwhelming tendency to dress like a librarian. I learned that while I am still really uncomfortable with showing lots of skin, I am more than happy to catch the eye by wearing a lot of different colors at once.
I don’t really know if there is any sort of foregone conclusion to be drawn, suffice to say, I feel more comfortable in my outfits and style than I ever have in the past. With that in mind…
I would have to say that my favorite item is my yellow maxi skirt. I never imagined that it would be so versatile and, as a shortie, it represented a “faux-pas” of shorts. (Us tiny people are supposed to stay away from such things, you know.) So every single outfit that I wore and liked was like a great big “F**K YOU” to the fashion rules. I also re-discovered these Dooney & Bourke bags that were childhood birthday presents from a great aunt. I didn’t understand how cool they were when I was 8 years old, but I am super grateful for them now!
In 2012, I except that you’ll see me purchasing a few expensive items that haven’t been allowed in the past two years. (Currently considering these Kork-Ease wedges.) So they’ll be a bit more repetition of items as more consideration goes into their purchase. Hopefully, this will push me to be more creative and really extend my wardrobe. I also need to start buying more pants. Seriously, my wardrobe is practically pantless. I just live in those Uniqlo stetchy leggings pants things.
I think that Marty is probably the cutest cat in the entire world and I try to provide evidence of this to the world every single day by posting an obnoxious amount of cat pictures on my Twitter and Instagram.
